Tim // 3rd Year // History

Everyone needs to know their worth. I’m quite an insecure person so I spent a lot of time looking for affirmation from other people, because I wanted to gain their praise to feel my value.

Coming from a Christian house I’d always been interested in religion and wanted to know what was true. I didn’t want to just be a Christian because my parents were, but I also didn’t want to disappoint them. I spent a lot of time looking into as many different religions as I could, to try to understand God. After reading around I decided that Christianity had to be true, but it still felt empty so much of the time.

My problem was trying to understand it. If we try to confine God to our understanding of Him we will reduce God. By making Christianity into what I decided it needed to be, I’d made it empty. Jesus is so much bigger than rules of how to live life, he’s a person.

In abandoning my desire to understand the theology behind everything, I could rest in knowing that I’m a child of God, which will take a lifetime to explore. In that identity is so much value, love and purpose, and it’s so much more real than a rule book.
