Millie // 2nd Year // History of Art
Before coming to Bristol, I spent a year in Falmouth doing an Art Foundation. Going to Falmouth was a lot about studying my course, meeting new people, and change. I really didn’t think that change would involve faith. I was invited to a CU meeting in the middle of first term and since my course and halls were with the same group it seemed like a great way to meet new people.
Looking back now, I don’t think I’d fully figured out what I thought about Jesus or what he meant in my life. I think my experience with faith was predominantly based on the community that accepted and loved me.
I wouldn’t say there was an exact moment when I became a Christian, but at some point, I knew that I fully believed the verse from John 3:16 “for God so loved the world he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him, shall not die but have eternal life.”
Before knowing Jesus, I thought that everything that happened in my life was down to me, and I was in control. Hearing the verse “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) I feel a burden lifted from my shoulders, that I can depend on God.
At first, I feared that I would have to make a huge change in my life before God would accept me as a Christian. But hearing, “For by Grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God not a result of works” (Ephesians 2:8-9) I was reassured that the love and power of God is far beyond any change I could make in my life.
