Becoming a Christian for me has been a long process and there’s no single moment I can point to where I became one. But looking at my life now and before, the change is undeniable. When I was younger, I called myself a Christian because I went to church on Sundays and tried to live a ‘good’ life. Still, I always struggled with doubting God and thought it was up to me to improve my life and impress others. But through looking deeper into Christianity, I realised that it’s not about how firmly you believe in God or trying to do the right thing to get to heaven. It’s about a relationship with a living God who loves us so much he sent his only Son to die for us.
Accepting that Jesus has freed us from all sin and guilt on the cross and following Him is the greatest joy I or anyone can ever know. He rejoices at every single person who turns to Him and gives them a new life, so our lives now are not about our performance but His. Now I don’t have to face anything alone and I don’t fear what my future holds, or what people will think of me, or what happens when we die. Following Jesus is true freedom like nothing else: the more of my life I give to Him the more fulfilled I feel. I still struggle with doubt and make mistakes daily, but He is always there to forgive me and pick me up. Yes, there are costs to becoming a Christian, but the reward is everything. I now know happiness, purpose and satisfaction totally beyond anything I could have even imagined before.
