I grew up going to a traditional church which was almost 1000 years old. As a kid, reciting scripture and singing hymns really wasn’t my idea of fun. Don’t get me wrong, I can easily see now why it appeals to many, but as an 8-year old boy I just wanted to run around and play. I associated Christianity with a set of rules to live by and something that killed my fun.
My family stopped going to church when I was around 13, and when I started going to church again on my own at 16, I realised that the truth couldn’t be more different. The church had a really youthful demographic and I truly felt God’s love for the first time when I was accepted into the community with wide-open and loving arms.
On a new journey, now with God at my side, I moved to Canada for 2 years and learnt that I fear nothing when God is with me. Of course, troubles and tribulations will find me and they may be too big for me to handle alone, but God gives me the hope that things will always get better and that I can look forward to eternity with him.
