My first encounter with Christianity where I understood it as a concept was in secondary school where I would follow popular science presenters, including some which argued against the existence of God.

Since I enjoyed science and learning I, ironically, took their word as gospel and proclaimed myself an atheist and would try to challenge my RE teacher with arguments I had heard from them. I clumped Christianity with all other ‘religions’ and reasoned them to be equally ridiculous and argued against all of them.

However, quite unscientifically, and not giving it much concern, I never tried to listen to what the other side had to say. I had forgotten all about religion until I came to university and I met a Christian on my course. She invited me to church and to CU events and to read the bible with her. As I heard more about God I rejected Him again, but my reasons for doing so grew increasingly unreasonable.

However, it was not by my own knowledge or reason that I came to know God but by His saving faith. He revealed to me truths about Himself that I could not understand before, through hearing His word in the bible. The more and more I learn about Him the more I see His unbounded love for me and for this world. Knowing Him has changed me completely.
