I’m not sure what I thought it meant to be a Christian before coming to uni, but all I know now is that I really didn’t understand it.
I didn’t understand who Jesus was, what he had done, how much it cost him and what this meant for me.
In 1st year as I looked into the claims Jesus makes in the Bible, God made it clear how much I had turned away from him and rejected him and that I would be judged for that. Yet it also slowly became clear how Jesus had restored this broken relationship by taking the punishment that I should have taken, for my rejection of him, by dying on a cross.
Soon I realised I couldn’t sit on the fence any longer, either Jesus’ claims are true and I had to trust in him, ask him for forgiveness and to be the loving ruler of my life or conclude it was a load of rubbish, which I couldn’t. I now want to live in response to all he has done.
My advice - investigate Jesus’ claims, ask questions, come to your own conclusion. There’s nothing more important and nothing better than knowing him.
