SOPHIE, 1ST YEAR, THEATRE AND ENGLISH

Coming from a non-Christian family I wasn’t very familiar with The Bible or Jesus at all. At around 11 I joined the local youth group with my brothers and would go along for games and to see friends but was also listening to the Bible talks. Gradually, I started to hear about someone called Jesus who came to rescue us from our sin. This brought up more questions for me: why did I need saving, surely I can’t be that bad? Through Christian youth leaders, camp leaders and friends I became aware of my own personal rejection of God. This only increased my amazement that Jesus would take my rightful place on the cross so that I could not only be rescued from condemnation but be a daughter of God!

When I was about 14, a youth leader from church asked me if I would like to be baptised. Before this, I hadn’t really called myself a Christian but I was suddenly very aware that I did have a strong sense of certainty in God’s word and what it reveals and promises to come.

Since then, through going to church regularly, summer camps and Christian friendships, I have grown spiritually and have been supported by God’s family around me. Though I continued to have small doubts and troubles along the way, nothing could shake my firm belief in Jesus and who he is.
